Elim Art - Explore Faith and Creativity Through Art

Join free, welcoming workshops and exhibitions at Elim Christian Centre in Swindon, where people of every background paint, draw and reflect on life, faith and the gospel of Jesus Christ. Come as you are and find community, conversation and hope.

Community Life

We share the work produced in our workshops on the walls of the church and on social media, so that the whole congregation and the wider community can enjoy it. We host themed exhibitions in the building and invite neighbours and local churches to come and see.

Our Vision: Faith Through Art

Our vision is to engage people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the medium of art. We want both churched and unchurched people to feel welcome, heard and safe. We will develop and offer free art workshops for the local community, alongside gentle faith based sessions and lectures for anyone who is curious. We will exhibit and promote Elim Art so that stories and journeys can be seen and celebrated. We will also collaborate with churches, agencies and organisations who care about the meeting place of faith and creativity.

Why Art Matters to Us

Art helps people tell the truth about their lives. In one early workshop a woman drew a cross with a snapping snake, a brave picture of her pain and her disappointment with religion. Her story reminds us that creativity can surface memories, offer new ideas and open a way to meet our creator. From well known painters like Caravaggio and Rembrandt to a neighbour picking up a brush for the first time, art can ask the big questions of life and death. It can provoke or disappoint, yet it can also lift the heart and awaken awe. We believe creativity is a gift of God placed in every person, and this project invites you to explore it with care and hope.

Free Art Workshops for Everyone

We provide completely free art workshops for the local community, welcoming participants of all artistic abilities and faith backgrounds. Our sessions combine studying historic Christian masterpieces with hands-on painting and drawing activities, guided by experienced tutors who tailor biblical content appropriately for diverse audiences. These accessible workshops prioritize simplicity and enjoyment, creating an engaging environment for everyone from faith-curious individuals to seasoned believers seeking creative spiritual expression.

What to expect

A typical day may begin with a simple look at a historic Christian artwork, followed by conversation about what we see and what it stirs in us. The depth of any biblical input will reflect the people in the room, and questions will always be welcomed.
